In 1989 the Sazerac Company purchased the formula and all rights to the cinnamon spirit. It was in 2001 that Fireball found its way to America.
The reason for the slow rise in popularity might have something to do with the fact that the brand initially marketed it as “Dr. McGillicuddy’s Fireball Whiskey.”
Once the Whiskey was in Sazerac’s hands, the brand got a makeover, taking to the streets marketing the drink in a face-to-face grassroots style. It didn’t take long for people to fall in love with it; country singers seem to be huge fans of it.
From 2011 to 2014, Fireball’s income went from $1.9 million in sales up to $863.5 million. The cinnamon blaze didn’t stop there; in 2019, the Canadian Whiskey sold 5.65 million cases of 9-liter bottles.
Fireball has won at least seven awards, including the gold medal they received at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and Three Affiliated Tribes awarded the brand with Best Mini Alcoholic Bottle.
